1. Confirm the single-fiber link conditions first.
The Axonode 10G BiDi SFP+ 40km solution uses two complementary SFP+ modules at opposite ends of one single-mode fiber strand. Confirm the fiber route, connector type, patching arrangement and total optical loss before deployment.

2. Matched modules and optical specifications
The two modules must be deployed as a complementary pair. One side transmits at 1270nm and receives at 1330nm; the remote side transmits at 1330nm and receives at 1270nm. Two same-direction modules will not establish a normal BiDi link.

Complementary wavelengths allow transmit and receive traffic to share one fiber strand. This helps preserve fiber resources for ISP access, campus interconnection, enterprise edge networks and point-to-point fiber-constrained links.

Frequently Asked Questions
i. Can this 10G BiDi SFP+ 40km module connect to a standard duplex 10G LR module?
No. This product is a single-fiber BiDi solution with a Simplex LC interface and complementary 1270nm / 1330nm wavelengths. A standard duplex 10G LR module normally uses two fibers and a different optical interface. For a working BiDi link, use the matched 1270nm TX / 1330nm RX and 1330nm TX / 1270nm RX module directions.
ii. How should the 1270nm and 1330nm modules be paired?
Install Module A at one end with TX 1270nm / RX 1330nm, and Module B at the opposite end with TX 1330nm / RX 1270nm. The transmit wavelength at one end must match the receive wavelength at the other end. Two modules with the same TX direction will not establish a normal BiDi link.
iii. Can BiDi modules from different brands work together?
Possible, but it should not be assumed. The wavelength direction, data rate, optical power range, receiver sensitivity and overload limits must match, and each module must also be accepted by its host switch or router. For mixed-brand deployment, confirm both the optical interface and the required compatibility coding before ordering or replacing one side.
iv. What switch or router information is needed for compatibility coding?
Provide the equipment brand, exact model, port type, software or firmware environment, required compatibility code and whether DDM / DOM monitoring is expected. A standard SFP+ port is required, but form factor alone does not guarantee host acceptance. Compatibility should be confirmed against the actual device before shipment.
v. Can a 40km BiDi module be used on a short fiber link?
Yes, if the received optical power remains within the permitted receiver range. This 40km version has -3 to +2 dBm TX power, -15 dBm receiver sensitivity and 0.5 dBm receiver overload. On very short or low-loss links, check DDM / DOM readings and use suitable attenuation if received power may exceed the overload limit.
vi. How should the optical budget be checked for a 40km single-fiber link?
Use the verified 12 dB optical budget as an engineering reference, then calculate the actual route loss. Include fiber attenuation, connector loss, splice loss, patching loss and a practical margin. Reach up to 40km depends on the real link condition, not distance alone, so measured loss is preferred for existing routes.
vii. What should be checked if the BiDi link does not come up?
First confirm the two modules are installed in opposite wavelength directions and the link uses one single-mode fiber strand with Simplex LC patching. Then check port speed, host compatibility coding, fiber continuity, connector cleanliness, total loss and DDM / DOM readings for TX power and received power. Also confirm the selected commercial or industrial temperature option fits the site.
