Frequently Asked Questions
i. Can this 100G QSFP28 ZR4 really reach 100km?
Yes, when deployed within the specified optical link budget and fiber-loss conditions. Actual reach depends on fiber attenuation, connectors, splices, and other losses across the complete optical path.
ii. Does a 100km 100G ZR4 link require an EDFA or other optical amplifier?
Not necessarily. Whether amplification is required depends on the module’s optical budget and the total end-to-end link loss. Share your fiber distance and estimated loss with Axonode before deployment so the link can be reviewed.
iii. What should I check before deploying 100G ZR4 over a 100km fiber route?
Confirm the actual fiber length, fiber type, connector and splice losses, transmitter output, receiver sensitivity and overall link budget. For a 100km link, distance alone is not enough to determine whether the connection will operate reliably.
iv. Can I use a 100km ZR4 module on a much shorter link?
Potentially, but receiver overload must be checked first. High-power long-reach optics used over low-loss short links may require an optical attenuator to keep received power within the module’s specified range.
v. Will the 100G 100km ZR4 work with Cisco, Juniper, Arista or other switches?
Compatibility depends on the exact host platform, port configuration, and software version. Axonode can provide compatible coding and verify the target switch or router model before shipment.
